Human Studies Begin for Hard-to-Treat Cancers. Treatment Invented in Tri-Cities

A new technology developed in the Tri-Cities for difficult to treat cancers is ready for its first use in U.S. patients at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

RadioGel, which kills cancer cells with an injected dose of radiation, is showing promise in treating tumors that cannot be surgically removed. The technology was invented at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland as a project of Department of Energy contractor Battelle. Now it is licensed to Vivos Inc. in Kennewick, which is developing it for commercial use.
